Judy Blume supports SCBWI Impact and Legacy Fund Independent Bookstore Grant

Author and SIBA bookstore owner Judy Blume has pledged support for the SCBWI Independent Bookstore Grant, sponsored by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Three grants will be awarded in 2026. Each grant provides $1,000 to an independent bookstore to support a public program or event that features a children’s book author, illustrator, or translator.

SCBWI created the grant in 2025 to support independent bookstores and connect them with authors by supporting three independent bookstores from around the country. In their statement about the grant, they write, "In the age of e-commerce, it’s no secret that independent bookstores are struggling. We want to do our part to help keep them viable as businesses while connecting them with the creators they support. When book creators and independent bookstores have resilient, personal relationships with one another, the children’s book industry thrives."

The support of Judy Blume will allow the SCBWI to continue the independent bookstore grant for at least another three years.
