What We're Reading, Listening to, and Watching This Week (9/20/2026)
Linda-Marie Barrett / Executive Director:
Reading: An A-Z Guide to Jane Austen’s World by Inger Sigrun Bredkjaer Brodey. In some ways an annotated approach to understanding the real world settings of Austen’s novels, her sensibilities, and the historical forces that influenced her writing. For fans of Austen, this will be a helpful education and welcome escape.
Listening: Sometimes I marvel at my neighborhood’s overall quiet, and I never take it for granted.
Watching: In preparation for the newest season of The Great British Baking Show, we’re rewatching previous seasons. Even though I know who’s going to win, I revel in the competition and the group’s collaborative, supportive spirit. So refreshing!
Candice Huber / Membership:
Crafting: Besides making journals, I've been working on crocheting some cups for board game components with yarn that matches the component. For example, yellow yarn for gold, grey yarn for stone, red yarn for brick, etc. I've also gotten into making cross-stitch bookmarks lately.
Watching: We've been bingeing through season 4 of Ted Lasso. What a fun and uplifting show!
Building: I recently got annoyed at how messy my crafting area in my office was, so I spent Labor Day weekend rearranging, building shelving, and organizing everything. I also created zones in my office, so there's now a craft zone, a book zone, a work zone, and a cat zone (yes, my cats have their own area!). I already loved my office (some of you may have seen it in the background of Zoom meetings), but now I love it even more!
Nicki Leone / Communications:
Reading: White Moss by Anna Nergaki, which we're doing for book club next week. But honestly, it's been a time of lost voices: Robin Morgan, Wendell Berry, Annie Dillard. Their books are all stacked by my bed right now.
Listening: to David Naiman talk to Claudia Rankine about her new book, Triage, on the Between the Covers podcast.
Watching: At home we're making our way through the American Masters episodes on PBS, starting with the one on Mary Oliver.
