What We're Reading, Listening to, and Watching This Week (1/18/2026)
Linda-Marie Barrett / Executive Director:
Reading: Summer State of Mind by Kristy Woodson Harvey. Set on the coast of NC, involving a former baseball star and a NICU nurse, this is for fans of the TV series Sweet Magnolias. About to re-read The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page for my book club (it's really good).
Listening: To the heat pump working hard to keep the house warm during a big freeze.
Watching: I'm enjoying three series on alternate nights: All Creatures Great and Small, My Life is Murder, and Brokenwood. I'm also watching my life pass me by as I struggle to finish a Lord of the Rings jigsaw puzzle that is not impossible, but really, really hard.
Candice Huber / Membership:
Reading: Still in the middle of A Power Unbound by Freya Marske.
Listening: Weather reports as well, this week is supposed to be snowstorm city!
Watching: Really excited about the return of The Pitt, which is intense, but such an excellent show!
Nicki Leone / Communications:
Reading: Motherland by Julia Ioffe. I'm up to the Krushchev period. This book is so amazing. The women Ioffe talks about are just incredible.
Listening: Everyone else on staff is listening to furnaces and heat pumps, but I am not because the furnace conked out last night, so my folks and I had to decamp to my sister's house.
Watching: Well, I watched the Buffalo Bills get eliminated from the playoffs. But I am glad I have a new season of The Pitt to look forward to.
SP Rankin / Website Administrator:
Reading: Jeanette Winterson's new book, One Aladdin Two Lamps, popped into my e-reader yesterday, and I'm looking forward to a cold, snowy weekend with a good book.
Listening: One hour per night of Trollope's The Eustace Diamonds continue and I keep thinking Lizzie Eustace would make an excellent reality TV star.
Watching: Riot Women, about a group of five furious menopausal British women who start a punk band. Not that I identify with ANY of that, of course.
Andrea Richardson / Sales:
Reading: Enshittification by Cory Doctorow. It's for our book club this weekend, and it's great so far.
Listening: Weather reports, in case of impending snowmageddon this weekend.
Watching: Virginia's state pinball finals were this past weekend, so I watched about 15 hours of live-streamed pinball over two days. (I did the broadcast commentary for the women's tournament, and it was so fun.) We also binged season one of The Pitt, and I can't get it out of my brain - it's amazing.
