What We're Reading, Listening to, and Watching This Week (5/24/2026)
Linda-Marie Barrett / Executive Director:
Reading: Finishing the beautifully written Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May. A truly perfect read for now. I've just added it to my book club’s 2027 list as there is so much to discuss. Starting Very Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto, my book club’s June selection.
Listening: To birdsong, yard maintenance equipment, and blessed silence.
Watching: This week, my husband and I ventured into the woods near our home to see blue ghost fireflies, which emit a blue-white glow rather than flashing on and off like other fireflies. The blue ghosts floated across the forest floor and through the trees like little fairies carrying lanterns. It was a magical, deeply restful witnessing.
Candice Huber / Membership:
Reading: Same as last week, The Art of Activism.
Listening: Still on The Tapestry of Fate.
Watching: Binged Pop Culture Jeopardy, which honestly is so much more fun than regular Jeopardy.
Nicki Leone / Communications:
Reading: I finished Anna Nerkagi's White Moss, and it was really extraordinary. I've never read anything quite like it.
Listening: This week, a lot of Muzak while I waited on hold for someone from tech support to get on the line and help me activate my new phone.
Watching: It is baby fawn season here. One was born in the backyard over Memorial Day weekend, and I got to watch the whole thing. Now this tiny, adorable critter is bouncing around back there and preventing me from mowing the grass. Darn.
SP Rankin / Website Administrator:
Reading: Forbidden Notebook by Alba de Céspedes for book club.
Listening: Music from the 1970s and music that makes me feel like the 1970s. A pattern when spring starts boiling over into summer.
Watching: The documentary Natchez (also aired recently on PBS), which I believe is required viewing for anyone in the South.
Andrea Richardson / Sales:
Reading: I just finished Diana Peterfreund's second installment in the Ellen Poe series and it's so good! They're great YA mysteries with a Poe ghost helping solve things.
Listening: to my cats chase each other around for no reason. It's loud.
Watching: SNL UK has had a really fun first season! I'm looking forward to more from those folks.
