Tamara Olmedo of Cuentos y Cafe BIPOC Bookstore and Ben Adams of All Good Book will be the moderators for the upcoming New and Prospective Owners Retreat on November 5. Booksellers can submit topics for the retreat discussion agenda when they register. To encourage free conversation, the event will not be recorded, but someone will take notes of any resources or recommendations made, to be shared after the event is over. Booksellers must be members of SIBA to attend.

Tamara OlmedoTamara Olmedo (she/her/ella) is the co-founder of Cuentos y Cafe BIPOC Bookstore, an Asheville, NC based, multicultural, Latina woman-owned pop-up and online bookstore committed to uplifting BIPOC (People of the Global Majority) and BIPOC LGBTQIA+ authors. Tamara is passionate about sharing culture and experiences through stories. When she’s not bouncing around town sharing books with the community, you can find Tamara adding books to her towering TBR pile, laughing and adventuring with friends, or spending time with her son, Kai.

Ben AdamsBen Adams is a founder and owner of All Good Books. A Columbia, South Carolina native, he attended American University in Washington, DC., and Columbia University in the City of New York, then worked in book publishing for several years. He first learned the ropes of bookselling while working at Blue Bicycle Books in Charleston, South Carolina. He then founded Odd Bird Books, a small bookstore in downtown Columbia, which operated from 2019-2022 while he and his partners (Clint and Jenna Wallace) were still in the nascent stages of forming All Good Books. In total, he has worked as a bookseller for fifteen years.

About SIBA New Owners Retreats:

SIBA's New and Prospective Owners Retreats are a space for booksellers at the beginning of their journey as bookstore owners to meet with each other, share advice and experiences, and solve problems. Retreats are hosted on Zoom three times per year: Winter, Spring, and Fall. Each retreat is moderated, and discussion topics are determined by the issues attendees list when they register. Booksellers must be members of SIBA to attend.
