Hurricane Isaias will impact Gulf Coast bookstores

Posted By: Nicki Leone Advocacy,

Hurricane Isaias (pronounced eee-sah-EEE-as, the Spanish-language version of Isaiah) is currently a Category 2 storm and is projected to become a Category 3 by the time it makes landfall on Saturday. Bookstores on the Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida Gulf Coasts are especially at risk. But bookstores in Tennessee will also feel the effects as Isaias moves inland on Sunday. Prepare for possible flooding.

In the SIBA region, we know there is no such thing as a "small" hurricane or tropical storm if it affects your home or business. SIBA is monitoring the situation and stands ready to help. Here are some things stores in the affected areas can do right now to receive assistance:

1. Contact Binc

The Book Industry Charitable Foundation can provide immediate emergency financial assistance to your store and your staff.

Request help | 1-866-733-9064

2. Let SIBA know what you need

SIBA runs a Crisis Hub Bulletin Board where bookstores can list things they need, or things they have to donate. Contact Candice Huber at candice@sibaweb.com.

3. Update your emergency contact information in your SIBA profile

If your store is closed or your power is out, an emergency contact number will help SIBA stay in touch and offer support. Login.

Stay safe, and be in touch when you can.
