What We're Reading, Listening to, and Watching This Week (8/30/2026)

Linda-Marie BarrettLinda-Marie Barrett / Executive Director:
Reading: The Court of Venus by Bel Banta. A romantic fantasy that’s delivering just what I needed: escape into a magical world through the eyes of fascinating characters. I just started but am very much enjoying it.
Listening: The bears are even more active in our neighborhood (if that’s possible) and yesterday I watched two bears way up in a tree argue with each other about territory. I’d never heard a black bear’s eerie pulsing groaning (almost warbling) before and was glad I was well away from them. It’s been exceedingly hot, so it is otherwise very quiet during the days, as most creatures, including birds, are hunkering down.
Watching: Rewatching episodes of The Great British Baking Show. I don’t care if I know who wins, I still love the supportive, good-natured, bake-focused camaraderie of the group vying to win the engraved glass cake stand and the title of the UK’s best amateur baker.

CandiceCandice Huber / Membership:
Reading: Almost finished Time to Play by Erin Ampersand. It's been a fun ride, and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series!
Reorganizing: I decided to reorganize my office and craft room, and I'm excited about the possibilities! I was so excited to get all the organizational furnishings and can't wait to rearrange this weekend.
End of Summer Camp Update: Summer camp is sadly over, but now I get to move into the -BER months and spooky season, so it's not *too* sad. I worked on crochet, cross-stitch, paper, fabric, and paint crafts. I finished 6 books, which is more than I've read in quite a while. I took some field trips to places and events I haven't been to before (and some that I have). And I had lots of fun! Can't wait to move into my spooky season.

Nicki LeoneNicki Leone / Communications:
Reading: An Arrow in Flight by Mary Lavin, and Penelope's Bones by Emily Hauser. But I am also revisiting White Moss by Anna Nergaki, because my book club picked it (with only a tiny bit of pressure from me!)
Listening
: Gaining Ground by Joan Barfoot, I Made You Up Inside My Head by Marta Pérez-Carbonell.
Watching: The US Open, with varying degrees of apathy because I am so out of touch that I don't know any of the players.

SP RankinSP Rankin / Website Administrator:
Reading: Labels on boxes.
Listening
: That very particular sound packing tape makes when it gets to the end of the roll.
Watching
: Inspector Barnaby investigate a murder caused by a giant wheel of cheddar cheese.

Andi RichardsonAndrea Richardson / Sales:
Reading: The Sixth Faction, Veronica Roth's reimagining of Divergent. It's just as gripping as the original!
Listening: Love Felt Like This by Julie Olivia. Gimme all the fall romance right now!
Watching
: Jeopardy Masters is going strong, and I can't get enough of it.
