What We're Reading, Listening to, and Watching This Week (6/28/2026)
Linda-Marie Barrett / Executive Director:
Reading: Enjoying reading The Vagabond by Colette for my July book club. Colette's writing is exquisite and her descriptions of a talented writer struggling to support herself after a divorce are frustratingly relevant today.
Listening: Appreciating the soft hum of a functioning a/c unit.
Watching: Finally watched the last two episodes of The Big C, which were as moving and beautiful as I expected them to be. Looking forward to wrapping up The Other Bennet Sister, a pleasure all the way through.
Candice Huber / Membership:
Crafting: I recently did a tapestry crochet of my cat, Leota, and I think it came out pretty good!
Listening: To get in touch with my inner child, I recently listed to both Mariah Carey's and Paula Abdul's debut albums, and I totally forgot how great they both are.
Reading: I've gotten back into a bit of a groove with reading lately! I finished the HMRC (Her Majesty's Royal Coven) trilogy (it was soooo fun!) and started Dorothy Must Die and I'm already halfway through! I think I just needed to read for FUN and not for WORK, you know?
Nicki Leone / Communications:
Reading: I'm still walking around with my copies of Maggie O'Farrell's Land and Steppe by Oksana Vasyakina. They are great books to get lost in.
Listening: I'm really excited to see all the Octavia Butler books on the Libro.fm "Advance Listener Copies" for July. So many choices! Where to start?
Watching: The Yankees in a godawful slump.
SP Rankin / Website Administrator:
Reading: I've just started Cantoras by Caro di Robertis. Set in Uruguay in the 1970s to the present, it tells the story of a group of five queer women who survive brutal political repression. I love "forgotten history" stories, and this is an incredible example.
Listening: A new and beautiful cover of the heartbreaking Woody Guthrie classic, "Deportee (Plane Wreck in Los Gatos)," performed by Margo Price and Joan Baez. "You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane. All they will call you is deportee."
Watching: The creepy, claustrophobic, and clever cult British TV show from the 1960s The Prisoner has been restored for The Criterion Channel. Good day, Number Six.
Andrea Richardson / Sales:
Reading: Big Little Truths, Liane Moriarty's follow up to Big Little Lies is so good! Just the sequel we all needed (and it works as a stand alone, even if you don't know the previous book)
Listening: I saw The Breeders live last night and Cannonball is still playing in my head. They were awesome.
Watching: Love Island, still. I'm not sorry.
