What We're Reading, Listening to, and Watching This Week (3/29/2026)
Linda-Marie Barrett / Executive Director:
Reading: Reading and enjoying She’ll be Killing ‘Round the Mountain by Bryan Robinson. I’ll be "in-conversation" with him at his book launch at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe and I need to prep! This mystery/thriller is set in Asheville and involves a local branch of an alt-right survivalist movement doing very bad things to good people.
Listening: Nature sounds and the hum of my aromatherapy diffuser gently scenting my office.
Watching: My newest quartet of viewing pleasures: Nautilus, Poirot, The Big C, and Brokenwood. All deliver whatever the mood requires.
Candice Huber / Membership:
Reading: I got halfway through The Shadow Cabinet by Juno Dawson on my vacation, AND I finished a couple of crafting projects, so I'm taking the win!
Listening: To massive Spring storms blowing through!
Watching: I've been watching The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins on Peacock, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Tracy Morgan, and it's delightful and hilarious so far.
Nicki Leone / Communications:
Reading: Autobiography of Cotton by Cristina Rivera Garza, but I only just now opened it up.
Listening: Kin by Tayari Jones, and Against Breaking: On the Power of Poetry by Ada Limón (Thank you, Libro.fm Bookseller ALC program!)
Watching: Yes, I watched the Artemis II moonshot. It was about two hours of looking at birds fly around the rocket on the launch pad, fifteen minutes of utterly unintelligible broadcasts from the launch teams as they went through their final count down checklists, and then about seven or eight minutes of pure thrill and terror as Artemis II lifted off and heaved itself into the sky, leaving a plume behind that could probably be seen all the way up the eastern seaboard.
SP Rankin / Website Administrator:
Reading: Stickpins: Gems for Gentlemen. An absolutely exquisite little book written and just published by Robert Haines, a dear friend of my very dear late uncle's. He meticulously chronicles his extraordinary lifelong collection of lapel stickpins, with photographs and scholarly provenances for each one. If you pick it up, you can't put it down.
Listening: Every morning during breakfast, I let the Merlin app tell me which birds are singing in the backyard. This morning, as most mornings, cardinals and Carolina wrens were the loudest, with a chipping sparrow providing a little counterpoint.
Watching: Bella! This Woman's Place is in the House, a 2023 documentary about the late, great, fire-breathing, hat-wearing congresswoman, Bella Abzug. I wish she were here today. We need her.
Andrea Richardson / Sales:
Reading: I am in the middle of four books at once right now, and they're all really good! Mindy McGinnis's first adult novel is particularly grabbing me - it's really dark and satirical with her signature make-you-shudder-grossness that I love so much. Daisy Jones meets Dexter is the elevator pitch, and it's spot on.
Listening: I'm still into the Kate McKinnon audiobooks of her Millicent Quibb series. They're just perfect.
Watching: In just a short while, I'll be watching a virtual event with Lena Dunham and her publisher for her new memoir, and I think that's going to be really interesting. And still The Pitt, of course.
