Meet the SIBA Staff: Candice Huber / Membership and Social Media Coordinator
Candice Huber is a sixth-generation New Orleanian who disappointed their family by moving to Cleveland in 2024. As a high achiever who just can’t let go, they decided to keep their bookstore, Tubby & Coo’s Traveling Book Shop, in New Orleans and manage it remotely. They've been bookselling for 12 years, and they are also a bookstore business coach, small publisher, instructor, and dean for the Professional Booksellers School, and author of a tabletop roleplaying book about monsters called Carnival of Creatures.
Outside of running their bookstore, publishing, and consulting companies, Candice is a cozy person who enjoys writing, crafting (specifically crochet, finger knitting, cross stitch, and embroidery), playing board and video games, creating spreadsheets for fun, taking care of houseplants, and going on nature walks. Their three cats and husband follow them around and sometimes lay in their lap.
Since 2022, Candice has worked for SIBA and is currently Membership and Social Media Coordinator. Through creating programs, toolkits, graphics, and content, it feels like they are properly using their English and Communications degree. Generally, Candice brings the “vibes” for the New Voices New Rooms Conference, coordinating social activities and ensuring accessibility is prioritized.
Before SIBA and owning their bookstore, Candice worked in tech as a project manager and business analyst, appeared in at least one rap music video, acted as a handler for John Goodman at baseball games, and was a minor league baseball mascot.
Candice loves SIBA and is always excited and happy to help their fellow bookstores be as successful as they can.
