Celebrating Genre at NVNR

Posted By: Nicki Leone Events and Networking, NVNR,

New Voices New Rooms has always celebrated genre in its commitment to title discovery for booksellers. Often the most joyful, or most terrifying, section in the store, genre books are also the fastest-growing, fastest-selling section, with many avid readers among booksellers.

Events focused on Genre at NVNR 2026:

The True Story of True Crime: Writing, Editing, and Hand-Selling It
While true crime podcasts and books remain wildly popular, sometimes it feels like we don’t talk about it enough as a genre in bookselling– as a literary genre, it has a research process and plot construction as complex as any other form of writing. Two authors, an editor, and a bookseller discuss the intricacies of the research and editorial process, as well as the challenges—and joys—of marketing and hand-selling everyone’s secret favorite genre.

Horror Panel | No Place Like Home: Making Local Settings Terrifying
The horror genre is experiencing an unprecedented literary renaissance. Writers are experimenting with a wide array of tropes and storytelling, including how they approach setting and cultural history in their work. This panel brings readers the voices and settings from 18th-century Ireland, Indigenous Alaska, Appalachia, and Mexico City.

Sip & Sizzle Romance Authors Reception
A favorite at every NVNR, this late-night reception is a rendezvous with the authors who melt hearts and write prose that sizzles! Over a dozen authors will be on hand at this intimate event (pun intended), which is set up to allow booksellers a chance to have face-to-face conversations with the writers behind some of their favorite hand-sell titles.
