SIBA and the Professional Booksellers School

As part of its mission to support bookseller development through education, SIBA is a sponsor of the  Professional Booksellers School,  and SIBA members are eligible for discounts and rebates on courses. The Professional Booksellers School was established to change bookselling by offering sustained, high-level professional development for independent booksellers at all levels.  Courses are designed and taught by experienced and successful owners, managers, buyers, and event staffers to help independent booksellers master job-specific skills and knowledge. Instructors and students come from all across the U.S. 

Booksellers from current SIBA member bookstores receive a discount on course fees when registering, and their bookstore can apply for partial reimbursement of course fees when the bookseller completes their certification. 

PBS currently offers 5 live courses, taught once each year, as well as Independent Study options and upper-level, single-topic classes to help grow and develop bookstores. The live courses are:

• Basic/Frontline Bookselling  (begins in March, registration in January)
• Event Management (begins in January, registration in November)
• Inventory Management (begins in January, registration in November)
• Store & Operations Management (begins in March, registration in January)
• Bookstore Finances (begins in April, registration in March)
