Great Ideas from Booksellers

“We just partnered with a local travel agent to create a “literary bus tour” of our area . It starts and ends at the store, and an author goes along for the ride as a guide.”

A Special IndieCommerce Program & SIBA Affiliates

The American Booksellers Association is making their IndieCommerce Solution available to ABA members at a reduced price.  This solution is sophisticated and robust and offers an affiliate option which all bookstores should be exploiting to increase sales.  It’s time to give this opportunity some serious thought.  The ARTS site is driving traffic to participating bookstores at a rate of 2000+ clicks per month.  Participating bookstores are Fountain Bookstore, Malaprops Bookstore & Cafe, Flyleaf Books, Inkwood Books, Alabama Booksmith,Octavia Books, The Regulator and City Lights.

Bottom Line:  An affiliate solution is the single, best way to assist your community in selling books on your behalf while adding to everyone’s bottom line.

Spring Book Show Around the Corner - Atlanta, Mar. 25-27

The SIBA Board of Directors & Staff and ABA Staff will be on hand at the largest remainder book show in the South.  We will be providing education both mornings in Atlanta at the Spring Book Show.  Get efficient, informed & educated.

Bottom Line:  Networking with other booksellers is the single best indicator of success.  Show up for this opportunity to learn, share, and gain the tools needed to move forward successfully.

Get your twitter on and win a #SIBA11 Hotel Night!

Do you read Bennie & the Gets!?  A host of twittering booksellers do, and they let us know and someone has won an #SIBA11 ALL Pass.  Drumroll, please - @burrybooks has won the first SIBA Twitter Contest in 2011.  Congratulations to Burry Bookstore of Hartsville, SC.  And thanks to everyone who entered.  Oh, and you can win more than once!

Bottom Line:  Any core member who tweets the following: I’ll be at #SIBA11, will you? will be entered into a drawing for a free hotel night at #SIBA11.  The deadline for tweets is St. Patrick’s Day.

Email Science & What I Learned

I recently attended a webinar with Dan Z. and 20,000 other friends, and after looking at over 1 billion emails, he shared a ton of surprising & valuable info.  Here’s what I learned!

Bottom Line:  Your emails don’t matter unless they are read.

There is still time to participate in this great cause and endear your store to your community at the same time.  Writers for the Red Cross is a robust site that has gotten lotsofcoveragefromtheindustryandmainstreammedia, and SIBA has helped make this happen.  And you can too!  There’s an auction, buying options, a bookstore toolbox, a blog, avatars, and more.  Check it out to find ways to participate.  I cannot say enough times how important it is to get your affiliate status turned on at your website if you use the IndieCommerce Solution (and if you are still trying to decide, see the offer you cannot refuse.)

Bottom Line:  It is opportunities like this one combined with the affiliate stores that allow SIBA the flexibility to turnaround and drive traffic into your bookstore website.  Get on board today!
