A bold new out-of-the-box concept, Trio seeks to celebrate the art in great storytelling.

It begins with a book. Then the book is given to both a songwriter and a visual artist. The artists are inspired as only a great book can inspire a person:  A song is written. A work of art is created. And a new Trio comes into being.

A new Trio will be announced each week via the Trio Facebook page. In September all the Trios will be installed as a part of an exhibit which will debut at the 40th anniversary of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Discovery Show in Raleigh, NC. Then the exhibit will go on the road, traveling to museums, galleries, and literary events throughout following year in partnership with SIBA’s indie bookstores. The Trio exhibit will be a unique and creative literary event that invites community participation and excitement around the inspirational nature of great books.

The songwriters include Grammy winners and CMA award-winners. The visual artists are a diverse group from photographers to painters to sculptors to a Visual and Special Effects Director in feature films. The authors…could be yours.

There is only room for five more titles. The cost to the publisher to have a book in the exhibit is $2,999. In addition, the publisher should provide three copies of the book, in addition to any advance reader copies or galleys needed to get to the musician and artist in advance. Time is critical.

The Facebook page for Trio has been established and will feature one Trio a week until the debut of the project. Publishers should share and link to all social media feeds.

Here are the fifteen titles and their assigned musician and artist.

Southern Hospitality Overnight Program – Wi10
Calling all Southerners!

The 2015 Winter Institute (Wi10) will be held in Asheville, NC!  And SIBA wants to show off her Southern Hospitality.  We are asking southern booksellers who plan to attend Winter Institute to participate in SHOP (Southern Hospitality Overnight Program).

There's something special about Asheville, and the world is just beginning to discover it. Alongside Malaprop’s Bookstore & Café this thriving mountain city features a funky and eclectic downtown, 30-plus art galleries downtown alone, a burgeoning culinary scene, a thriving live music scene and, of course, the awe-inspiring scenery of the Appalachian Mountains.  But like many southern gems, air travel in and out of Asheville’s AVL airport can be expensive and complicated.

And there’s something special about southerners - In an effort to support booksellers from across the country in their desire to attend Wi10, the American Booksellers Association’s highly acclaimed educational program for booksellers, SIBA has put together this program where any SIBA bookseller who’d like can host another ABA bookseller from “off” by letting them fly into a different airport than AVL and driving into Asheville together.  Elegant and easy, let’s help make it economical (and fun)!

We are building the SHOP page with info attendees will need to consider other airports extending their education experience into the homes, cars and hearts of southern booksellers and reps.  We will open up the SHOP page on September 3rd, where one will be able to see not just the participating hospitable southerners but also the codes for nearby airports.

Get these dates on your calendar:
SHOP page opens on Sep. 3rd
Wi10 Registration OPENS Sep. 18th.
Wi10 is Feb. 8-Feb. 11, 2015.

The ABA will assist SIBA in promoting the SHOP page to booksellers across the country.  Once attendees sort out their travel plans, they will find a store that matches their airport code and email with the subject line – I want to SHOP with you! , and booksellers will together negotiate the travel arrangements and coordinate pick up and return plans.  As matches are made and SIBA is notified we will indicate on the SHOP page where there is still availability.

ABA /SIBA members who plan to attend WI10 and would like to participate in SHOP should email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Aug. 30.
