Writers for the Red Cross

Hi everyone!

We are delighted to announce that the following stores and regional booksellers associations are now participating in WRITERS FOR THE RED CROSS, which will run March 1-31 (Red Cross Month):

Alabama Booksmith (Birmingham, AL)
City Lights (Sylva, NC)
Flyleaf Books (Chapel Hill, NC)
Fountain Bookstore (Richmond, VA)
Inkwood Books (Tampa, FL)
Malaprops (Asheville, NC)
Octavia Books (New Orleans, LA)
The Regulator Bookshop (Durham, NC)
WORD (Brooklyn, NY)
SIBA/Writers Round the South (event partner)

The event is starting to get some good buzz!  Shelf Awareness did a great call-out last week.  And SIBA is featuring it on its homepage as well.  You can also follow the event on Twitter (#write4red).

The official website should go live sometime next week. We're hard at work loading donor content and getting things spiffed up.  So stay tuned.

Here is the most recent list of authors, agents, editors, and other publishing professionals who are on board. This may help as you brainstorm possibilities for your store.

It's up to you how you'd like your store to participate. Some may wish only to be listed on the WRITERS FOR THE RED CROSS site as a supporter of writers and the Red Cross.

Some stores, like WORD, will be doing a 31-hour online sale with a % of proceeds going to their local Red Cross Chapter.

Others, with the help of SIBA, will be providing us with product links for each of the books featured on our site--with a % of proceeds going to the Red Cross as well.

More ideas of things you might do:
organize a Blood Drive, set out a donation jar at the register, host a special signing event, coordinate a special hands-on volunteering project for the Red Cross, etc.

Feel free to email us (Holly and Beth) if we can be helpful in any way or if you need contact information for the development officers at your local Red Cross.  Your local Red Cross will want to know about your participation--and can also help get the word out!

Finally, whatever you decide to do: BE SURE to let us know about it.  We'll do our best to get it maximum coverage on the WRITERS FOR THE RED CROSS site.

We'll check back in the week of February 21 with more updates.

In the meantime, please help us spread the word!

All best,

Thinking of other booksellers, writers, agents, or editors who should know about this?  It's still not too late, if they move fast. Forward this email or direct them to the Writers for the Red Cross website.
